Scope of the Project

Redlands were appointed as Principal Contractor to carry out a programme of fire safety improvement works following a detailed condition report on the existing fire door sets throughout the school.

As part of the project, we supplied and installed 22 bespoke FD30 fire door sets finished in Ash. Each door set was manufactured to specification and fitted with integrated vision panels and fire rated glass to meet all required safety standards.

The works also included the installation of new fire rated ironmongery, door closers, intumescent strips and smoke seals, all carefully fitted within routed channels to ensure full compliance and performance.

In addition, all doors were connected to automatic release mechanisms designed to activate upon smoke detection or manual fire alarm activation, allowing the doors to close safely in the event of an emergency.

Challenges

Due to the project being carried out within a live school environment, stringent health and safety procedures and a carefully managed site setup were essential throughout the duration of the works.

A detailed programme of works was agreed in advance with school staff to minimise disruption to students and day to day operations. Temporary traffic management systems and restricted access routes were also implemented to ensure that active working areas could be safely avoided at all times.
